April Fool, Ambition, Assault & Terrorism:
A serendipitous journey that proves an April fool, who lacks ambition, can combine a strong work ethic with a little assault and bullying, and couple it with a terrorism turnaround to even surprise herself.
Sandra Sully
Sandra Sully has cemented herself as one of the most recognisable faces on Australian Television.
Sandra is enjoying her 16th year as the national anchor for Network Ten's Late News with Sports Tonight. As well as presenting, she is also the show's Senior Editor and plays an integral role in producing and compiling the bulletin.
Her extensive journalistic career is littered with highlights but perhaps none are more significant and poignant as the September, 11 terror attacks. With calm and poise,
Sandra was the first person to tell Australia about the tragic events unfolding before her eyes while delivering a professional news bulletin on the world's worst terrorist attack. Most recently, Sandra travelled to Borneo for the documentary, Sandakan – Sheer Bloody Murder. It tells the tragic story of overwhelming hardship and horror faced by Australian POWs, who were forced to march from their camps at Sandakan across the country of Sabah in one of the greatest atrocities of the World War Two.
Sandra also hosted COOL AID: the National Carbon Test which featured her exclusive interviews with Al Gore, former US vice president and creator of An Inconvenient Truth, and Australian of the Year Tim Flannery. In 2005, Sandra spoke with Douglas Wood in TEN's exclusive, world-first interview with the Australian hostage freed from his kidnappers in Iraq.
Sandra was also on air in 1997 during one of Australia’s worst natural disasters, the Thredbo Landslide. Like New York, this horrific piece of news was delivered professionally under difficult conditions.
She has subsequently covered the anniversary commemorations of both the Bali Bombings and September 11 tragedies.
Sandra's versatility has enabled her to cover numerous events for the network including becoming the first woman to co-host Australia's national iconic sporting event, The Melbourne Cup and was part of the coverage for seven years.
Sandra has also hosted the prestigious Australian of the Year Awards with Prime Minister John Howard for the last five years in Canberra.
Since joining Network Ten in 1991, Sandra has been an integral part of the news team, covering elite events such as reporting on the 1996 Atlanta Games and in 1994, covered the XV Commonwealth Games in Canada. Coupled with this, Sandra co-hosted Good Morning Australia in 1992 and was co-anchor for the FIRST AT FIVE news hour in 1993.
Sandra began her career with TEN in Canberra working at the parliamentary bureau. Her passion for politics led her to host the 1996 Federal Election.
In her spare time, Sandra is heavily involved in a number of charity organisations. She is on the Women's Advisory Board for the National Breast Cancer Centre, a position she has held for five years, is co-patron of Spinal Cure and is a member of the Carbine Club, an organisation that raises money for Kids Sport.
Sandra's passion for news has cemented her position as one of the finest newsreaders in the country, delivering the Ten Late News with integrity and credibility.
