Chicken pox, a derailed train and a blue arrow?:

Charles Macek is known to many people today as a non-executive director of two large public companies, Telstra and Wesfarmers. To others he is known for a long and successful career in funds management, including as founding CEO of County Investment Management, and a member of the Australian Fund Manager’s “Hall of Fame” and an honorary Life Member of the Investment and Financial Services Association. He is also known as an advocate for good governance and responsible investing as well as a Richmond Football Club tragic.

However, few people are familiar with the incredible journey that has taken a refugee immigrant to the boardrooms of corporate Australia. It is a journey with many tipping points which he will share with you at this event. The role of fate, opportunity, application and the importance of ethics are just part of his story. The role of education and the impact of an outstanding State School – Melbourne Boy’s High – will be reflected in the travelogue.

His approach to life is best summed up by a former entry in Who’s Who which states: “Life is a never ending journey of education and learning and, if an activity cannot be undertaken with passion it is not worth doing”.

ABOUT THE TIPPING POINT SERIES:

This event is the result of conversations with Australia's most admired entrepreneurs and business leaders. Their experiences during their careers in both prosperous and challenging times has amounted to unrivaled wisdom. Is it wisdom alone which constitutes the fabric of leadership?

The common thread lies in a specific event which was the change agent in each of their careers - The Tipping Point.
