The Invisible Network
Activating your network to uncover new business and learning channels
2nd March 2007
What is a network?
Networks are a dynamic set of relationships, both close and distant of mutual value that impacts on the ability to get things done, to develop and to learn.
Network Intelligence
The key to competitive advantage does not hinge purely on the capacity to generate greater banks of intellectual capital, but more so on developing active business networks driven by the need to remain relevant and competent.
Therefore, the greatest opportunity for a corporate to differentiate will not only ride on the ability of its staff but also the business opportunities they are able to develop. In the changing landscape of business, markets and work, gaining support from purposeful networks and relationships provides buoyancy and resilience through delivery of opportunities.
The ties and connections between and among the members of a network should create shared communities for learning and support in times of change, but also openings for new ideas and business opportunities.
There are four key questions that essential in the assessment of your networks’ potential:
- How wide and active are your networks?
- How often do you interact with your networks?
- Do your networks know what a viable business or learning opportunity is for you and your organisation?
- How many referrals do you receive from your networks?
Jon Burgess will introduce the key features of his ‘Invisible Network’ approach, discussing:
- what is meant by visible and invisible networks
- why each is important and
- the benefits that can be gained from developing the skills and processes for effective network development.
